Regrettably Malaysia, once considered an ace in Southeast Asia has lost its lovely lustre and now, it appears, even the plot. Malaysia used to be the region's bastion of political stability, had the longest tradition of a most feisty liberal democracy, a good civil service, education and health standards and an important destination of foreign tourists and investors and the biggest draw for unskilled workers from around the region and beyond. It was noted to be an education hub and an evergreen construction colossus. The people were courteous, hospitable and friendly. There was decency in the country and fairly ample adherence to the norms of some reserve and civic mindedness.
