Reinstate ban on Zakir Naik

23 FEBRUARY 2025 REINSTATE BAN ON ZAKIR NAIK - BARU BIAN I refer to the statement by Nazri Aziz, former Malaysian ambassador to the United States and ex-law minister, supporting the continued enforcement of the Sedition Act as a preventive law, which is necessary for taking action against individuals such as Zakir Naik who make offensive remarks on non-Islamic religions. Like Nazri Aziz, I am a believer in free speech, but at the same time, freedom of speech must be balanced with the rights of others to practice their faiths without being insulted or belittled by bigoted individuals. I was extremely disappointed to read the Home Minister's statement that the ban on Zakir Naik from speaking in public is no longer in effect. It is incomprehensible to right-thinking Malaysians that the ban was lifted without any justification and no release of reports of the investigations into the incidents complained about. When the ban was imposed, the police cited serious concerns over...

Why the double standards

https://newswav.com/A2502_BpMa7g Hannah Yeoh is not only Malaysian; she is a high profile minister. Despite that, after being accused of trying to turn Malaysia into a Christian nation, she had over 182 police reports lodged against her, although Hannah herself has vehemently denied the accusation. According to the police, two investigation papers have also been opened against Hannah, one under the Penal Code and another as a police inquiry paper. In contrast, Zakir Naik is not a Malaysian. He is actually an Indian citizen. What is more, he is actually wanted by the Indian authorities for inciting extremism and money laundering related cases. In the few years that he has been given refuge in Malaysia, he has already been involved in multiple fracas with multiple personalities in the country. Zakir's reputation as a rabble rouser is so strong, that there is even a gag order applied on him by the police in August 2019, preventing him from giving speeches in public in Mala...

THREE KEY DEMANDS FROM ANTI-CORRUPTION RALLY TO UNITY GOVERNMENT

On February 18, 2025, the Universiti Malaya Pro-Mahasiswa Front (UMANY and Suara Siswa UM), together with the Himpunan Advokasi Rakyat Malaysia (HARAM) group, held a press conference at the Parliament building to present three key demands from the January 25 Anti-Corruption Rally to the Members of Parliament: > Separation of Prosecutorial Powers from Attorney-General Office > Ensuring the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is Independent from the Executive Branch > Drafting a Political Donation Regulation Act UMANY Treasurer and UM Student Union (UMSU) Treasurer, Lim Jia Chuen, strongly condemned the current system where the prosecutorial powers lie in the Attorney General's Chambers (AGC). As the AGC serves both as the legal advisor to the government and the public prosecutor, it risks prioritizing so-called "government interests" over the prosecution of corrupt politicians. Corruption in Malaysia is not a collection of isolated cases but a ...

Siti Kassim

*Siti Kasim strongly chastises forced wearing of 'tudung' in schools; whacks MOE for playing dumb* Human rights activist and lawyer Siti Kasim has hit out at what can best be described as moral policing gets out of hand with school teachers forcing Malay pupils – some as young as Year One – to don the tudung lest they will be subject to various harassments and reprimands. https://focusmalaysia.my/siti-kasim-strongly-chastises-forced-wearing-of-tudung-in-schools-whacks-moe-for-playing-dumb/ ... "What happened in the past is still happening today if we don't initiate change. What is our government doing? Are they going to stop all these nonsense in our schools?" Sent from my iPhone

Proposed interfaith restrictions

Proposed Interfaith Restrictions Undermine Unity and Counter-Extremism Efforts -- INITIATE.MY INITIATE.MY expresses deep concern over the proposed guidelines announced by Datuk Dr. Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), in a parliamentary response on 4 February 2025. These restrictions, which regulate Muslims' participation in non-Muslim religious events and impose conditions on event organisers, pose a serious threat to national unity and counter-extremism efforts. The proposed restrictions include: - Prohibiting speeches or songs that promote or propagate other religions - Banning events during Muslim prayer times - Forbidding events near mosques, prayer rooms, Muslim cemeteries, or land owned by Muslim religious or community organisations - Prohibiting the display of non-Islamic religious symbols or attributes - Requiring organisers to seek permission from relevant authorities when inviting Muslim leaders or i...

Unwarranted religious overreach

https://newswav.com/A2502_tWtHSF?s=A_iDuGtvL&language=en ... If Muslims need guidance on attending non-Muslim events, it should be directed at them; regulating (non-Muslim) events is unwarranted and an abuse of one's right to the freedom of association. Sent from my iPhone
